(See also the Web tools page--there is some overlap)

ONLINE/DOWNLOADABLE EDITORS

Asterpix Interactive Video - Allows user to upload videos and then create hotspots where the viewer can link to additional text info and other Websites; a nice menu feature lets the viewer jump directly to a hotspot frame.

dotSUB.com - A vlog with the ability to allow users to add transcriptions or subtitles in any language

Evoca - This is a nice application but an even better Website: it suggests a wide variety of ways--in detail--that a group (for example of students) might use the simple voice recorder for digital story-telling, socializing, and even looking up a word in any of the recordings in the site archives. For instance, the story-telling page discusses what makes a good story. (Thanks to Seth Dickens--I found Evoca on his site and left a recording there.)

iShowu for Mac -Creates screencasts on Mac Intel-based computers.

JumpCut - [Sorry, JumpCut is no more]

Kaltura - A Web 2.0 online editor: allows friends to add clips and edit yours. Useful for group projects.

OneTrueMedia - Video editing on the Web

PhotoBucket - You can mashup photos, video, and music, as well as share media with others. Lots of how-to files.

QlipBoard - Downloadable application that allows you to make screencasts and embed your own photos enhanced with whiteboard-list tools.

rocketboom - Look at this site for some neat examples of how-to videos with transcriptions students might use or create

Tribbet - Online editor that lets you mash up text, photos, video, etc., and then play it as a show. A due date feature is included.

xtranormal - Create short videos using animated figures and the text you type in, which is read as text-to-speech.

Toufee - A flash video and slideshow creator; not free, but only $39.95. It has a 50% annual Christmas discount and a 14-day free trial. Supposedly compares well to Adobe Flash. Here's an example combining stills, animations, and video: The Coca-Cola Story, by Webhead Renee.

Ushow for iPhone - Lets you create videos with your iPhone. (May not be an "official" app, and so you may have to "break into" your iPone to install it.)
